Camping on the Coast

This list includes state, federal, city, county and private campgrounds on the central coast. All telephone numbers are in the 831 area code unless otherwise noted.

Please note that while dogs are allowed at some of the following campgrounds, dogs are not permitted in Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

1. New Brighton State Beach

Developed RV and tent campsites, 4 miles south of Santa Cruz on Highway 1. Reservations a must, especially during the summer!

2. Seacliff State Beach

RV sites only. Full hook-ups. 5 miles south of Santa Cruz . Take State Park Drive off Highway 1.

3. Manresa Uplands State Beach

64 walk-in tents-only campsites. 12 miles south of Santa Cruz. From From Highway 1 take San Andreas Road, turn right at Sand Dollar Road, veer left to campground.

4. Santa Cruz-KOA (Kampgrounds-of-America)

Privately Owned. RV sites to 40 feet. Full hook-ups; tent sites. 50 cabins sites with electricity, bring your own linens. Located 13 miles south of Santa Cruz on San Andreas Road.

5. Sunset State Beach

91 campsites, showers. 16 miles south of Santa Cruz off Highway 1. Exit Highway 1 on San Andreas and follow signs. Reservations a must!

6. Moss Landing KOA RV Park

Clean, full hookups for all sized RV's. TV cable to each site, telephone service available at each site. The Moss Landing KOA is located just off Highway 1, at the corner of Moss Landing and Sandholdt Road.

7. Marina Dunes RV Park

Privately owned. 35 sites, hookups, laundry. West of Highway 1 between Monterey and Santa Cruz. Take Reservation Road in Marina, turn right on Dunes Drive.

8. Laguna Seca Recreation Area

Seven miles east on Highway 68. RV and tent sites, hook-ups and showers. Some seasonal limits.

9. Veterans Memorial Park

40 primitive campsites. RVs to 21 feet. No hook-ups. Take Highway 68 West from Highway 1. Turn right onto Skyline Forest Drive. At stop sign turn left onto Skyline Drive. Follow Skyline Drive into the park.

10. Saddle Mountain Ranch

Privately owned. Tent and trailer sites, hook-ups, and showers. Pets permitted. Take Carmel Valley Road four miles to Shulte Road, turn right. Follow to the end of the road. (Closed during the winter.)

11. Carmel-by-the-River RV Park

14. Big Sur Campground and Cabins

15. Riverside Campground and Cabins

19. Kirk Creek - Los Padres National Forest
